Immerse yourself in the panoramic spectacle of expansive grasslands, where the serene ballet of herders and their flocks paints a moving picture of harmony, and yaks graze freely beneath the grandeur of lofty peaks.
Every turn reveals a landscape steeped in ancient beauty; from mystical Tibetan villages to age-old monasteries and passes kissed by the colorful dance of prayer flags. Amidst the crisp, mountain air, be prepared for views that not only take your breath away but replenish the soul. Navigating the famed Qinghai-Tibet highway, renowned as one of Tibet’s most grueling yet enchanting biking routes, the challenge of the changing climates and increasing altitudes is met with the undeniable allure of natural grandeur.
Starting from Golmud which is only 2,200 meters, you’ll always ride uphill. When you reach Kekexili Nature Reserve, the Kunlun Mountain pass is at an elevation of 4,767 meters, then the heartland of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau – Wudaoliang, also the hub pot of Hol Xil uninhabited area, after that, move ahead to Tanglha Mountain pass which is at an elevation of 5,231 meters – the highest point of the riding tour. Afterward, ride southwards via Amdo and Nagqu to the holy lake Namtso which is located at 4,718 meters. You can appreciate the blue water of Namtso sparkling in the sunshine in the daytime, and stars sparkling in the sky at night. Finally, we ride to Lhasa within 3 days via Damxung Yangpachen Hot Spring.
In brief, regardless of the hostile riding conditions like much higher altitude, less oxygen, harsh climate, and changeable weather, this bike tour is so amazing that you’ll cross the Kunlun Mountain Pass, ride along Hol Xil Nature Reserve, Tanglha Mountain Pass, Changtang Prairie, Lake Namtso, and Yangpachen hot spring to reach Lhasa. It’s full of variety you’ll see snow-capped mountains, vast grassland, holy lakes, herds of cattle and sheep, Qinghai-Tibet train passing in front of you, rare wildlife like Tibetan antelopes.
