What is the most popular way to travel to Tibet? The answer is no doubt that driving to Lhasa from Chengdu, Sichuan via G318 national highway. So now we recommend a world-class overland tour – Chengdu-Lhasa highway is one of the most beautiful but dangerous roads in the world.
This 10-day tour has two parts, the first is an around 2,400km long overland drive to Tibet. It starts from the panda’s hometown Chengdu and ends at the Tibetan Buddhism center – Lhasa. The Sichuan-Tibet Highway is famous for its paradise view but dangerous scenery.
When you enter Tibet along the Sichuan-Tibet Highway, you have to cross many mountains and rapids which is a difficult and dangerous journey but also magnificent. There are snow mountains, primeval forests, grasslands, glaciers (Laigu & Midui Glaciers), and a number of major rivers (Jinsha, Lancang & Nujiang Rivers). All those are the explorers’ and photographers’ ultimate delight. After the wonderful nature tour, you will start 2 days of cultural exploration in Lhasa to see the world’s heritages and mystical monasteries in an intimate way.
Autumn is the best season for this tour to feel four different seasons. Actually, summer is good too but there will be more dangers and unexpected situations. The monsoon will bring more rains which might lead to landslides. It’s a challenging but rewarding adventure that offers an immersive experience of natural beauty.
