Shalu-Nartang hiking route is the shortest trekking tour out of Lhasa. Just 2 to 3 days about 14 trekking hours for 26 kilometers. Trekking altitude is around 3,900 meters to 4,100 meters.
Highlights along the trek you’ll come across several points of interest including:
Shekar Dzong: A historic fortress and village that you’ll pass through.
Chu Gompa: A small monastery with beautiful murals and statues.
Ngor Monastery: A major highlight of the trek, Ngor Monastery is one of the most important Sakya sect monasteries in Tibet. It features ancient murals and sculptures and is worth a visit.
Nartang Monastery: Your trek ends at Nartang Monastery, which is known for its collection of Tibetan scriptures carved onto wooden blocks.
This trail is an ancient trade road between Shalu Monastery and Nartang Monastery which offers a great chance to look back through Tibetan history. With each step, you’ll forge a deeper connection with the essence of Tibet, leaving you with a profound appreciation for its heritage and the memories of an unforgettable adventure. The recommended travel season is from April to October.
