Gyantse Damar Festival starts on April 15 of the Tibetan calendar every year. As one of the most traditional festivals in Tibet, it’s similar to Nagchu Horse Racing Festival in August. People from different townships gather together to celebrate the festival which offers a great chance to explore Tibetan folklore and enjoy wrestling, horse racing, and shooting contest.

Nomads’ families will come to Gyantse by their horse carts to join the annual festival. After the horse racing, they will set up stands to sell homemade sweet milk dregs and other products. You can explore the exotic trade fair, taste highland Tibetan delicacy, and collect exquisite handicrafts as festival souvenirs.
